Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mauritius has implemented a law aimed at tightening rules for residency and citizenship eligibility of foreign spouses of Mauritian citizens. The new rules, among other items, allow the issuance of temporary residence to a foreign national married to a Mauritian citizen outside the country if they are married according to the civil law in Mauritius; introduce checks on the authenticity of such marriages by relevant authorities; and introduce a four-year spousal permit to be preceded by a two-year temporary permit for spouses of Mauritian citizens.
