Maritime sector: Mauritius and Seychelles to join forces and build a strong partnership

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mauritius and Seychelles should join forces and build a strong partnership in the maritime sector, stated the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment of Seychelles, Mr Flavien Joubert, following his meeting with the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Sudheer Maudhoo, today, in Port-Louis.
Minister Joubert indicated that he had a productive meeting with the Fisheries Minister especially in the areas of mutual interests namely, Joint Management Area; Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ); and exchange programmes between fishermen of both countries.

“It is important for Mauritius and Seychelles to consolidate ties with international countries who have access to fish in our EEZ”, he stated.

He also spoke of the longstanding relations between Mauritius and Seychelles adding that both countries share a common history and heritage, and a substantial maritime territory that can be harnessed for mutual benefit.
Minister Joubert pointed out that as Small Island Developing States, both countries need to reaffirm their commitment to work hand in hand to promote maritime activities in their oceans.
