Africa-Press – Mauritius. Students of Government Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (GIHMCT) have been selected for internship to be done in the groups of hotels abroad for the first time.

Two hotel groups from Mauritius approached Government Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology with a proposal that they would bear all expenditure of the students and also pay them a good sum every month till the end of their internship.

Dr Aarti Meshram, Principal of the Institute said, “We are very much delighted as our students have got an opportunity.

Over the period of years we are grooming our students in such a way that when such groups approach us, the students should do well. Almost all students were raw when they took admission to this institute.

They were not able to talk in their own language in a proper manner, forget about English. The Institute tried to put in best efforts to bring a drastic change in them.
There were 57 students in final year Diploma HMCT.

Both companies– Tamassa, a 5-star Resorts and Saffron Grill Fine Dinning approached Nagpur’s GIHMCT and put an offer to have the students as interns as their respective establishments.

Of the total students, both group selected 12 students with 3 to have internship at Tamassa 5-star Resorts and 9 to work at Saffron Grill Fine Dinning.

Elaborating it, Annu Pillai, Training and Placement Co-ordinator said, “Everybody knows the five star resorts concept where tourists can live also.

The Grill Fine Dinning is a huge restaurant with no arrangement for stay. Our students will surely have a great experience. Nitin Shende, who is Faculty Chef explained, “Almost all the students are from rural part.

As our Principal rightly pointed out, we groomed them so that they should acquire soft skills. When any private group comes, the students need to speak in English which is minimum requirement, we take care of such small things in our institution.

” Dr Manoj Daigavane, Joint Director of Technical Education, Nagpur Region expressed happiness, “This is a good development. We at our institute keep experimenting ultimately benefiting students here. We have full support to such activities. ”
