Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Devi Koonjoo-Shah, chaired the National Steering Committee on Gender Mainstreaming, this morning at the Maritim Resort and Spa in Balaclava.

The aim of the National Steering Committee is to promote dialogue among stakeholders of the public sector and ensure collective actions for the implementation of the National Gender Policy (NGP) 2022- 2030, launched this year in March by the Prime Minister, Mr.

Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. Minister Koonjoo-Shah stated that gender equality is a cross cutting issue and it is the responsibility of the Ministry and concerned departments to guide the development of sectoral and institutional policies.

The committee, she said, offers a platform to consult, dialogue and set the gender agenda in various ministries. Speaking on the NGP, she indicated that the document is a reference for Government’s commitment to integrating the country into development planning, operations, monitoring and evaluation as regards gender matters.

It articulates a series of recommendations and strategies for different sectors, she said, adding that there has been significant progress over the years.

The Gender Minister lauded the commitment of the stakeholders and called upon their assistance to review the functioning of the existing mechanism and set new recommendations for the Committee.
