The Professional Architects Council (PAC) organised, yesterday, a Continuing Professional Development Workshop on “La Conception Bioclimatique en Milieu Tropical”, in the presence of the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, at the Caudan Arts Centre, in Port Louis.
In a statement, Minister Hurreeram highlighted that this workshop has been organised as part of PAC’s ongoing trainings for architects and will be delivered by the expert in Bioclimatic Architecture and Co-founder of “Laboratoire d’Ecologie Urbaine de la Réunion”, Dr Antoine Perrau.
This session, he indicated is essential in the face of the challenges that the world is facing as regards climate change. On this score, Mr Hurreeram underlined the need to learn how to build in harmony with the environment and construct better in respect of the environment without undermining the comfort of citizens as well.
The workshop focused on: the review of the historical, geographical and architectural framework; Summary of the concepts of thermal comfort; the strategies of conception in a tropical humid environment; Natural ventilation and; Thermal planning, among others.
