Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, symbolically remitted oral health kits to some students of Sir Claude Noel Government School and La Sourdine Government School, this afternoon in L’Escalier, in the context World Oral Health Day 2023.
The theme chosen this year is ‘Be Proud of Your Mouth’. The Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), Dr Muhammad Ismael Rawoo, and other personalities were also present on this occasion.
In his address, Minister Jagutpal highlighted the importance of maintaining a good oral hygiene and stressed on the necessary precautions to undertake for same.
He observed that the distribution of oral health kits to children will help to sensitise them so that they can in turn raise awareness among their relatives on the need to maintain a good buccal hygiene.
Dr Jagutpal recalled that the distribution of oral health kits to students forms part of the National Action Plan for Oral Health 2022-2027, which was launched on 1st June 2022.
One of the Action Plan’s objectives, he indicated, is to encourage the development of a good oral hygiene at a young age. On another note, the Minister appealed to students to eat balanced meals so as to remain in good health.
As for PPS Rawoo, he seized this opportunity to sensitise students on the importance of having a good buccal hygiene, and explained to them the correct technique to brush their teeth.
He also remarked that children nowadays benefit from several additional facilities with regards to health services offered by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Dr Rawoo moreover encouraged students to brush their teeth twice a day and visit a dentist for a check-up at least once a year so as to ensure a good oral health.
It is recalled that, to date, more than 39,000 students have already received their oral health kits. A total of 308 kits were distributed to children of Sir Claude Noel Government School, and 108 to those of La Sourdine Government School.
