Funeral of Dan Callikan: Shakti and Anjali pay tribute to their father

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The funeral of Dan Callikan, who died on Saturday April 8 on Reunion Island, took place on Friday April 14 at the Trois-Mamelles crematorium. This former adviser to ex-Prime Ministers Sir Anerood Jugnauth and Navin Ramgoolam and managing director of the national radio and television station received tributes from several politicians, his former colleagues, journalists, civil servants and especially employees of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), including the current managing director, Anooj Ramsurrun, who considered him his father.

Many politicians, especially those of the Labor Party (Ptr), including leader Navin Ramgoolam, President Patrick Assirvaden, leader of the Rassemblement Mauricien (RM), Nando Bodha, as well as Neena Ramdenee, member of Linion Pep Morisien (LPM) attended the funeral.

Among the former colleagues of the deceased, let us highlight the presence of Trilock Dwarka, Datta Ramyad, Richard Ramasawmy, Ritvick Neerbun, Ashok Beeharry, Sadna Teeluckdharry and Manda Boolell.

Ex-judge Vinod Boolell was also present. The former editors of the express, Jean Claude de l’Estrac, Yvan Martial and Raj Meetarbhan, were in attendance.

Sadhna, the wife of Dan Callikan, and her two daughters, Shakti and Anjali, received sympathy from those at the crematorium. The two girls paid a vibrant tribute to their father.

Anjali read a poem and Shakti briefly recalled her father’s journey before telling him to take flight just as Dan Callikan had said these words when she was leaving for studies abroad.
