Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Mr Elias M. Magosi, met the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, yesterday, in Port-Louis.
In a statement, Minister Alan Ganoo underlined that the purpose of the visit of the SADC Executive Secretary to Mauritius was to assess and evaluate the implementation and integration of the various programmes that had been undertaken by the SADC.
“His mission is to ensure that the implementation of our joint projects translate into enhanced integration, collaboration and development,” highlighted the Minister.
He emphasised that both parties were working conjointly to advance the agenda of cooperation and development, while recalling that the SADC was providing unflinching support to Mauritius in various fields including agroindustry, climate change, peace and security.
Furthermore, Minister Ganoo announced that it had been agreed that Mauritius would host an Energy Transmission Facility that would cater for the needs of all SADC member states.
As for the SADC Executive Secretary, he stated that he was encouraging SADC member states to expedite the ratification of protocols and agreements to make sure that there would be more integration.
He also spoke of finding ways of accelerating integration in the region through infrastructure to support the movement of goods and people and increased connectivity. Mr Elias M. Magosi further pointed out that one of the priorities of the SADC was to help maintain peace and security in the region.
