Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, received, this afternoon at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis, the Commandant supérieur des Forces armées dans la Zone sud de l’Océan indien (COMSUP FAZSOI), Général de brigade, Mr Laurent Cluzel.
The French Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius, Mrs Florence Caussé-Tissier, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Anil Kumar Dip, and the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Ravi Meettook, were also present.
In a statement, Général de brigade Cluzel highlighted that the meeting with Prime Minister Jugnauth, almost a year after the previous one, was an opportunity to take stock of what the FAZSOI and its Mauritian partners have achieved so far and to discuss on future avenues of bilateral cooperation between them.
He observed that the FAZSOI and Mauritian stakeholders participated in a common exercise focusing on the fight against narco-trafficking back in December 2022, thus enhancing their capacity to work together.
Some programmes, such as the Brevet parachutiste and commando training, will also be organised so as to strengthen the military cooperation between the FAZSOI and Mauritius, he pointed out.
Moreover, he remarked that the existing partnership between the FAZSOI and Mauritius will be reinforced so as to further develop synergy and improve coordinated actions.
It is recalled that the FAZSOI are considered as the French military backbone in the Indian Ocean zone, having as main objective the fight against regional maritime threats.
They are actively involved in different regional programmes, thereby promoting maritime security and safety in Eastern and Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
