
Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Secretary-General of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora, accompanied by the Electoral Commissioner, Mr Mohammad Irfan Abdool Rahman, met the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, this morning, at the State House in Réduit.
In a statement after the meeting, Dr Casas-Zamora underlined that the International IDEA, to which Mauritius is a Member State since 1999, works to support democracy globally.
He also affirmed that the International IDEA can provide a platform so as to share and disseminate the successful experience of Mauritius over the past half century.
Furthermore, he informed that democracy and climate change, which are relevant to a Small Island Developing State such as Mauritius, have also been discussed with President Roopun.
Besides, Secretary-General Casas-Zamora reiterated his resolve to find ways in which the International IDEA can further collaborate with our country on the issue of democracy.
