Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Madagascar, Mauritius, and Seychelles, Mr Hassan Alibakhshi, paid a courtesy call, today, on the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building, in Port Louis.
In a statement, Mr Hassan Alibakhshi affirmed that the meeting provided an opportunity to thank the Prime Minister and the Mauritian Government for their willingness to cooperate with Iran.
He averred that the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs would possibly be leading a delegation of businessmen and economic operators to Mauritius in the near future.
The Iranian Ambassador also presented to the Prime Minister ideas, approaches and activities undertaken since the visit of a strong Mauritian delegation to Iran last year. He recalled that the visit resulted in fruitful discussions, exchanges and signing of Memoranda of Understanding.
Furthermore, the collaboration between Mauritius and Iran within the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was evoked together with the bilateral relations between the two countries in several sectors namely health, agriculture, fisheries, social housing, provision of construction materials, medicine and medical equipment, education, as well as technical and vocational training.
Ambassador Alibakshi stated that he briefed Prime Minister Jugnauth on his country’s relations with its Arabic neighbours in the Middle East, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and its role in the region. The evolution of the situation between Russia and Ukraine was also discussed.
