The new Ticket Office, like those of Rose Hill and Curepipe, seeks to better serve Metro Express passengers visiting the shopping mall; and caters for all requests for information and for the purchase of MECard and MECard Senior.

The Ticket Office will be open from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. In a statement, Minister Alan Ganoo rejoiced that the MEL had concretised yet another successful initiative for the benefit of the commuters of the Metro Express Light Rail.

He remarked that the Ticket Office offered a highly sophisticated mode of service delivery, and acted as an information desk for commuters requiring help, in particular, the elderly and those having difficulties to use the electronic ticket system.

He added that the successful implementation of the project was a testimony of the strong collaboration between the public and private sectors, and lauded the ongoing partnership of MEL and Ascencia Ltd.

As for the Chief Executive Officer of the MEL, Dr Das Mootanah, he underlined that the third Ticket Office of MEL was part of the endeavour of MEL to ensure connectivity for its commuters.

“The Ticket Office caters for the information needs of, and other customer service to, the public,” he indicated.

The CEO observed that this project testified to the continued progress being made by MEL, adding that considerable infrastructural development was being made in areas where the Metro Express was offering its services.

New direct routing of the MEL from Phoenix to Ebène/Réduit launched On the same occasion, Mr Alan Ganoo inaugurated the new direct routing of the MEL from Phoenix to Ebène/Réduit, without the need for transit at Rose-Hill.

In a statement, the Minister informed that this direct journey of the Metro Express would be made available as from the next resumption of school classes, during peak time.

The Minister recalled that the works for the extension of the Metro Express network at St Pierre had already kickstarted and were expected to be completed by next year.

He also urged all Metro Express passengers and road users to act responsibly when commuting and to respect all road signs and traffic lights for their own safety and that of others.

He emphasised that extensive sensitisation campaigns on road security and road users, crossing or moving alongside the tracks of the Metro Express, were being spearheaded by the Government to raise awareness on the necessity of adhering to safety instructions and road signs.

Inauguration of Foot Over Bridge at Ebène LRT Moreover, the Minister inaugurated the Foot Over Bridge at the Ebène Light Rail Transit Station (LRT).

Minister Ganoo pointed out that the Foot Over Bridge, meeting world class standards, had been constructed by the MEL to provide access to the Ebène LRT Station from Ebène Cybercity.

Minister Ganoo lauded this endeavour of the MEL, which he stressed, demonstrated its commitment to provide its customers with excellent service and modern facilities.

The Foot Over Bridge provides for safe connectivity with amenities such as lifts, escalator and staircase on each side which are fully covered with concrete canopy for weather protection.

In terms of security for the commuters, the Bridge is fully equipped with lights and emergency lights, as well as CCTV camera linked to the Operation Control Centre.
