Africa-PressMauritius. The Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Eddy Boissézon, received, today, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mauritius, Mr Shuichiro Kawaguchi, in his office in Quatre Bornes.

Discussions focussed on the strengthening of the cooperation between Mauritius and Japan. In a statement, Vice-President Boissezon highlighted that one of the main topics discussed was to encourage Japanese industries to set up a branch in Mauritius.

This, he pointed out, will help to create more jobs on the local market and enable Mauritian citizens to further contribute to the country’s socio-economic development, while being less dependent on the tourism industry in the long run.

The Vice-President also recalled that he met Ambassador Kawaguchi last week in Beau Vallon whereby a company is working on the introduction of measures so as to help Mauritians who were aggrieved by the grounding of the MV Wakashio.

In this context, several ideas on ways to help those affected by the shipwreck were shared during today’s meeting, he added. Moreover, Vice-President Boissezon commended Japan for hosting the last Olympic and Paralympic Games, despite the difficult sanitary conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For his part, Ambassador Kawaguchi observed that Mauritius and Japan share strong bilateral ties. He underlined that his meeting with the Vice-President aimed at developing collaboration in several spheres.
