Africa-Press – Mauritius. Are the days of the Yu Lounge at Plaisance Airport numbered? A formal notice, dated September 8, was served by Airports of Mauritius Ltd (AML) to Veling, which operates this private terminal.
A notice for immediate termination would even be topical, with a threat of seizure of his premises at the airport hovering over the operator of the Yu Lounge, if he does not comply.
As for AML, it emerges that although the Veling group has had a Lease Agreement since 2005 for the construction of the Yu Lounge, the company, co-founded by Nirvan Veerasamy, does not however hold any operating contract with the owner and operator of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, namely AML.
A big slate with the state body, which would not have touched its due, is mentioned. Asked Tuesday for his version of the facts, Nirvan Veerasamy, who is abroad, replied that he would come back to us as soon as possible.
In any case, in the airport bosom, one wonders about the timing of this AML decision, especially since the Yu Lounge was able to operate for more than one mandate of the government led by the militant Socialist Movement.

This formal notice comes at a time when the shadow of a super holding is emerging which should bring together Air Mauritius, Airports of Mauritius Ltd (AML) and its subsidiaries Airport Terminal Operations Ltd (ATOL) and Mauritius Duty Free Paradise (MDFP).
Almost all of them having as a common denominator, Ken Arian, the super advisor of the Prime Minister’s office and president of AML. Remember that the Yu Lounge started its operations in December 2008. The private terminal operated by Veling is located in the airport area but away from the public terminals of the main terminal.
It has a lounge for travelers from a niche market for airliners but, above all, VVIPs disembarking from or boarding their private jets (200 to 300 planes of this type land in Mauritius each year before the Covid-19 pandemic).
On May 6, 2015, the late Sir Anerood Jugnauth, as Prime Minister, inaugurated the Yu Lounge Business Jet hangar, which can accommodate four private jets at the same time.
