Africa-Press – Mauritius. The National Youth Award will be an annual initiative of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, to recognise, showcase and celebrate the achievement of youth work and youth workers, with and for the youth.
This announcement was made this afternoon by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr. Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, as he presented the modalities of the National Youth Award.
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, emphasised that the initiative essentially aims at celebrating and rewarding the work being done by the youth, with the youth and for the youth, by different entities across the Republic of Mauritius. This endeavour will encourage others to undertake the same noble job for the youth, he added.
The Minister informed that that application to the competition will start as from 01 January 2023 and will end on 19 January 2024, and all citizens of the Republic of Mauritius and living in the Republic of Mauritius, will be eligible to participate in the competition.
He explained that there will be three categories in the competition, namely the Best Youth, Best Youth Worker and Best Youth Organisation. As regards the prizes, Mr Toussaint underlined that there will be three nominees for each category, and the winner will obtain a cash prize of Rs 100 000 and a trophy and the two other nominees will win Rs 10 000 each and a trophy.
Minister Toussaint also highlighted that the winners for year 2023 will not be allowed to compete in the future edition of the Award. Concerning the Indian Ocean Island Games 2023 scheduled to be held from 25 August 2023 in Madagascar, the Minister appealed to the population to show support to Mauritian athletes and encourage them to do their best during the competitions.
The Minister also urged all Mauritians, public and private entities and households to proudly hoist the National Flag during the Games to show their patriotism for the country.
National youth Award Best youth worker The participant should be a citizen of the Republic of Mauritius and living in the Republic of Mauritius; He should be aged between 18 to 35 years in the year 2023;
His participation should showcase his actions initiatives achieved during year 2023 in the Republic of Mauritius; Participants can register in only one category;
The beneficiaries should be youth aged between 14 to 29 years and the engagement should be for minimum period of 6 months; and Actions and initiatives should be original, innovative and demonstrate social and community impact.
Best youth organisation A Youth Organisation relate to one, which is registered with the Registrar of Association and with at least 50% of the Executive Members aged below 29 years;
The participating organisation should be a local one, set up in or before 2023 and its achievement should be within the Republic of Mauritius; Actions and initiatives should be original, innovative and demonstrate social and community impact; and
The Youth Organisation should not be a political or a religious one. Best youth The participant should be a citizen of the Republic of Mauritius and living in the Republic of Mauritius;
He should be aged between 14 to 29 years in the year 2023; Participants can register in only one category; Actions and initiatives should be original, innovative and demonstrate social and community impact; and He should showcase his actions/initiatives achieved during year 2023 in the Republic of Mauritius.
