Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, received at her office, in Phoenix, yesterday, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Finland to South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, and Mauritius, Mrs Raija Anne Lammila.
She was accompanied by the Education and Science Counsellor of the Embassy of Finland in Pretoria, South Africa, Miss IIna Soiri, and a delegation. Interviewed after her meeting, Ambassador Lammila indicated that she is currently on a four-day visit to Mauritius and looks forward to having discussions pertaining to commercial and educational areas of cooperation.
In addition, the Finnish Ambassador highlighted that present and future areas of collaboration between the two countries were elaborated during the courtesy call.
According to her, working with Mauritius which is nearly equal in size to Finland and recognised as an African hub of education, seems very promising.
Mrs Lamilla, moreover, spoke of the intention of delving into opportunities present locally for Finish companies to engage in business, which, according to her, will prove to be beneficial for both countries.
About Ambassador Lammila Ambassador Lammila has been the Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Pretoria since November 2020, and in May 2021, was appointed as a Non-Resident Ambassador to Mauritius.
She has worked, too, as Head of the Consulate General of Finland from 2017 in St Petersburg in the Russian Federation. Mrs Lammila joined the Finnish Foreign Ministry in 1983. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Economics and Business Administration.
Previous ambassadorial posts in the Ambassador’s career include: Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues and Gender Equality from 2015 to 2017 and, Ambassador to Mexico accredited to Cuba, Haiti, and Central America from 2011 to 2015.
She also served as the Deputy Head of Mission of the Finnish Embassy in Washington from 2007 to 2011 and held various directorship positions in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, including in the Americas and Asia departments.
