Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Deputy Head of Mission (Poland), Ms Joanna Szymańska, accompanied by the Vice-Consul of Poland, Ms Anna Czajka, called on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Sooroojdev Phokeer, yesterday, in his office in Port Louis.
Discussions focussed on exchanges between the Parliament of Poland and Parliament of Mauritius; ways to attract investment from Poland; and the possibility to have exchanges and learn from best practices on innovative methodologies used by Poland as regards the agricultural sector.
Furthermore, the meeting was also an opportunity to dwell on economic relations and trade between Mauritius and Poland. It is to be noted that our country’s main exports to Poland include raw cane sugar; refined sugar; tuna; parts and accessories of automatic data processing machines; and line fish tackle. These generated revenue of some Rs 378.5 million for year 2022.
On the other hand, Mauritius main imports from Poland, which amounted to around Rs 1.07 billion for year 2022 are as follows: parts of telephone sets; telephones for cellular networks; make-up preparations; perfumes/toilet waters; razors including safety razors and open blade type; and instruments and apparatus for measuring pressure.
It is recalled that Mauritius-Poland diplomatic ties were established since 1979 and, to date, there are around 70 Mauritian citizens who have settled in Poland.
