Africa-Press – Mauritius. The first three winners who participated in the online Virtual Quiz 2021, were awarded, this morning, cash prizes ranging from Rs 5 000 to Rs 15 000. The cash prize was allocated by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation. A shield was also awarded to the winners. Present on the occasion, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr.
Stephan Toussaint, underlined that the Virtual Quiz 2021 was an online contest whose preliminaries started during the lockdown period on 1st July 2021 and ended on 22 August 2021 during eight consecutive weeks and culminated with today’s on site contest for the finals.
Minister Toussaint congratulated the youngsters for their hardwork adding that the cash prizes symbolically acknowledge their efforts and remarkable performances. Furthermore, Mr.
Toussaint underlined that the objective of the Virtual Quiz was to enable young people along with their families to get involved in a sound activity by doing research works and consequently acquire additional knowledge.
He also lauded the efforts of the officers of his Ministry who work hard to further cater for the youths of the Republic as well as to better promote a sports and entertainment culture and thanked the Municipal City Council of Port Louis for its collaboration for the holding of the finals.
In this context, the Ministry will continue to support the youth in their endeavours so that they continue to practice their leisure activities even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Toussaint added.
As regards the ongoing vaccination campaign against COVID-19, the Minister appealed to the population, especially the youth present to come forward and get vaccinated so as to better protect them from the virus.
He urged them to continue to abide by sanitary measures such as proper wearing of masks and using hand sanitizers regularly. Virtual Quiz 2021
The preliminaries of the Virtual Quiz 2021 started on 1st July 2021 and ended on 22 August 2021 during eight consecutive weeks.
Each week, three winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd places) were designated. The final of the Virtual Quiz 2021 took place with the 1st winners of each week, totalling to a number of eight participants who were required to answer twenty questions based on general knowledge, through video projection.
Prizes for the finals were awarded to:
1st prize of Rs 15 000 plus a shield: Mr Bheekun Houdai;
2nd prize of Rs 10 000 plus a shield: Mr Gunnoo Yovesh and;
3rd prize of Rs 5 000 plus a shield: Mr Dilloo Yusuf Ali. Cash prizes between Rs 2 000 to Rs 5 000 were also awarded to the twenty-four winners of the preliminaries on the same occasion.
