AU President Meets with Commission Members

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Acting President of the African Union, João Lourenço, on Thursday in Addis Ababa, held a first working meeting with his team, the senior members of the AU Commission, who were sworn.

During the meeting, President João Lourenço said that it was mainly for them to get to know each other, having reiterated at the time his priorities, namely peace and security, the construction of infrastructures, among others.

Regarding infrastructure for Africa, during this first meeting, it was announced that Angola intends to host a conference on the subject in the first half of October this year, an initiative of the African Union.

In his speech at the swearing-in ceremony of the members of the African Union Commission, João Lourenço instructed this body to pay special attention to the issue of infrastructure, developing a strategy to mobilize international partners, specifically in carrying out investments with reciprocal benefits.

João Lourenço, who is also President of Angola, stressed that infrastructure is one of the essential foundations of the AU’s Agenda2063, requiring the mobilization of the largest possible volume of financial resources to achieve the goals defined in this area, as well as in areas related to technological innovation, food security and energy transition.

According to him, the mentioned conference will be a way for partners to participate directly in the entire process of growth and development in Africa, one of the different ways of doing justice to Africans and people of African descent, one of many other ways for reparation.

“I consider it a priority to invest seriously in the construction and improvement of our roads and highways, in the modernization of our railway lines, ports and airports, as well as in the creation of electricity transport and distribution lines, so that we can take energy from areas where there is a surplus to those who lack this fundamental asset”, he emphasized.
