The partners of the Alliance du Changement government have finalized the allocation of candidates for the upcoming municipal elections across the five cities, following an agreed-upon formula. As a result, the Labour Party and the MMM will have an equal number of candidates in Port-Louis and Curepipe, while Rezistans & Alternativ will have candidates in all five cities. This decision was made during a working session chaired by Prime Minister and Labour Party leader, Navin Ramgoolam.
In Port-Louis, the Labour Party and the MMM will each present 15 candidates, with Rezistans & Alternativ having two candidates, for the 32 seats available on the municipal council. In Beau-Bassin, the Labour Party will have 7 tickets, the MMM 15, and Rezistans & Alternativ two. For Quatre-Bornes, Labour has 11 candidates, the MMM has eight, and Rezistans & Alternativ has one.
In Vacoas/Phoenix, the Labour Party will present 13 candidates, the MMM eight, the Nouveaux Démocrates two, and Rezistans & Alternativ one. Lastly, in Curepipe, the Labour Party and the MMM will each have eight candidates, the Nouveaux Démocrates three, and Rezistans & Alternativ one.
Based on this distribution, the various partners will now finalize the profiles of the candidates in preparation for Nomination Day on Saturday, April 5th. Furthermore, the Campaign Committee, co-chaired by ministers Patrick Assirvaden and Rajesh Bhagwan, will be responsible for coordinating between the parties and managing the campaign efforts on the ground.
With the candidate allocations decided, the focus shifts to the selection of individuals and preparation for the campaign, the upcoming municipal elections are taking shape, with the parties of the Alliance du Changement coordinating their efforts to field a diverse slate of candidates across the five cities. The collaboration between the involved political groups shows their plan to build a strong campaign for the people of the cities.
