Africa-Press – Mauritius. In Cincinnati, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich defeated Auckland City by double digits, the largest victory in Club World Cup history.
With Thomas Muller scored two goals and Jamal Musiala scoring a hat-trick as his lengthy farewell to the team continued, Vincent Kompany’s team outperformed the New Zealand part-timers.
The floodgates opened early as Kingsley Coman’s header in the sixth minute gave Bayern the lead.
Twelve minutes later, Sacha Boey doubled Bayern’s lead with a half-volley knockdown from Coman, and Michael Olise, a former Crystal Palace player, turned in Muller’s cross at the far post to make it 3-0.
A minute later, Coman scored his second goal of the match with a left-footed drive into the bottom corner, making it 4-0.
Olise scored the fifth goal for the German team after Muller, who was playing his final game for Bayern before departing the team later this summer, guided Olise’s cross past Auckland custodian Conor Tracey.
Olise then curled a shot into the far corner to make it 6-0 at halftime.
Early in the second half, the barrage of Bayern goals slowed, but six minutes after coming off the bench, Musiala found the bottom corner with another curling effort to give Kompany’s club a seventh goal.
After being tripped inside the area and then hammering on a loose ball deep within the Auckland half, Musiala, who missed the last six Bundesliga games due to a hamstring injury, scored his second goal from the penalty spot to complete a hat-trick.
With two minutes left, Muller converted a cross from Serge Gnabry to give Bayern their tenth goal.
The triumph far outscored Al Hilal’s 6-1 victory over Al Jazira in 2022, which was the previous largest Club World Cup victory.
