Africa-Press – Mauritius. Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has been officially charged in England with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The charges, brought forward by the Crown Prosecution Service on Friday, relate to alleged incidents involving three women between 2021 and 2022. The 32-year-old, whose contract with Arsenal ended on June 30, is due to appear in court on August 5.
While Thomas Partey had previously been arrested in 2022, his identity had been withheld and he continued to play for Arsenal throughout the investigation.
Now publicly named, the situation marks a turning point in his career, especially as he had been linked this summer to moves to Barcelona and Fenerbahçe.
Partey’s legal troubles could lead to severe consequences, including a potential prison sentence. His case draws parallels with that of former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy, highlighting once again how serious criminal allegations are being handled in the world of professional football.
