Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Club World Cup, which saw Chelsea dominate PSG 3-0 in the final, has shaken up the summer transfer market. Several lesser-known players took the spotlight and are now on the radar of top European clubs.
Botafogo, for instance, already secured major deals with Nottingham Forest for Jair Cunha (€12M) and Igor Jesus (€11.6M). Their goalkeeper, John Victor, could soon follow, as Manchester United considers him a short-term option while André Onana recovers. Flamengo’s right-back Wesley also impressed, prompting AS Roma to table a €20M offer with €5M in bonuses—just shy of the Brazilian club’s fixed €25M demand.
Colombian players also drew significant attention. Midfielder Richard Rios from Palmeiras is set to join Roma in a €25M transfer, reportedly waiving his 10% cut to make the move happen. His countryman Jhon Arias, a standout winger from Fluminense, chose Wolverhampton over Tottenham in a €20M deal. Meanwhile, Monterrey’s Nelson Deossa has emerged as a €6M target for both Real Betis and English clubs, further confirming the strong showing of Colombian talent during the tournament.
Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Garcia, who finished as the top scorer, remains the biggest uncertainty. Despite his standout performances, his future is unclear, with several big clubs expected to make a move. The Club World Cup may not have the prestige of the Euros or World Cup yet, but it has clearly become a powerful stage for breakout stars ready to shake up European football.
