Africa-Press – Mauritius. Education goes beyond academic excellence and helps students in their character development as well as equips them with skills to tackle challenges in face of the ever-evolving globalised world.

The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, made this statement, today, in Ebène at a reception held in honour of laureates of the 2021 Cambridge Higher School Certificate examinations.

Vice-Prime Minister Dookun-Luchoomun extended her congratulations to the laureates for their academic excellence amid the COVID-19 pandemic while acknowledging that it was not easy for them to face such an unprecedented situation which taught them to become more resilient.

This accomplishment marks the culmination of the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of the students and their teachers as well as the support they have received from their families, she said.

The Vice-Prime Minister encouraged the laureates to adopt a culture of life-long learning, and at the same time to be open-minded and resilient, to innovate, adapt to changes, and become problem-solvers.

These skills are the prerequisites to shape their character and become future ambassadors of the country, she underlined. Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun wished the laureates success in their tertiary education.

She also made an appeal to them to make judicious choices in their tertiary studies so that they can make significant transformations in key sectors such as the ICT, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
