Africa-Press – Mauritius. Cape Verde boosted their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying hopes with a convincing 2-0 victory over Mauritius at the National Sports Stadium Pitch 1 on Thursday.

The Blue Sharks dominated proceedings and got their reward in the 22nd minute when Cabral broke the deadlock with a composed finish. Despite Mauritius’ efforts to find a response, Cape Verde remained in control and doubled their advantage in the 70th minute through Diney, whose strike sealed all three points.

The result sees Cape Verde move to the top of Group D with 16 points from seven matches, ahead of Cameroon, Libya, Angola, and Eswatini. The win piles pressure on their main rivals Cameroon as the race for qualification intensifies.

Cape Verde will now look to build on this momentum as they edge closer to securing a place at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
