Africa-Press – Mauritius. Tension flared on Saturday during a Nigeria Premier Football League encounter between Katsina United and Barau FC, as the game was marred by violence when Barau FC’s Nana Abraham was attacked by unruly fans.

The disturbing incident occurred in the 70th minute of the match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, with the score tied at 1-1. According to Barau FC, chaos erupted when a section of home supporters invaded the pitch and assaulted the midfielder, leaving him with a deep cut on his neck.

The club confirmed the incident via their official X handle, writing:

“70′ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”

Medical personnel rushed onto the pitch to attend to Abraham, who was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The game was briefly suspended as security operatives worked to restore order.

Barau FC officials have condemned the act, calling for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the relevant authorities to investigate and ensure the safety of players and officials during league matches.

The game eventually ended 1-1, but the violent scenes have once again raised concerns about fan behavior and stadium security in Nigerian football.
