Africa-Press – Mauritius. A cohort of 24 women entrepreneurs who have successfully completed the Trade Beyond Borders Training Programme, aiming to familiarise women entrepreneurs with trade logistics and global trade operations, were awarded certificates, yesterday, at the Economic Development Board (EDB) in Ebène.

The Junior Finance Minister, Mr Dhaneshwar Damry; the Chief Executive Officer of EDB, Mr Abhimanu Kundasamy; and the Country Manager, DHL Global Forwarding – Mauritius, Mrs Lalaina Rasolomanana; were present at the event.

In his address, Mr Damry underlined that the training targets mainly women-led enterprises with the objective of equipping them with the knowledge and aptitude essential for international market expansion. He commended the EDB for establishing the SheTrades Mauritius Hub to deliver tailored capacity building and business generation activities, thus contributing to job creation and women empowerment.

He underlined the importance of narrowing the gap between expenditure and growth for economies to thrive, highlighting the engagement of the Government to respond to the aspirations of the population and restoring confidence in the society. The Junior Minister referred to innovation, competitiveness and capacity building as three key pillars.

On that score, Mr Damry urged the women to persevere in their businesses and tap into the international markets for greater success, reiterating that gender equality and financial inclusion are the top priority for the Government.

For his part, Mr Kundasamy underscored that the EDB remains steadfast to create a conducive environment to empower women on the international stage. He rejoiced that the membership of the SheTrades Mauritius Hub has grown from 60 to 312 which is an encouragement for the EDB to continue providing capacity building opportunities, finance and resources.

The training programme is a scheme of the EDB under the SheTrades Mauritius Hub in collaboration with the DHL Go Trade initiative. It spanned over a period of four months comprising eight sessions on key topics such as International Trade Regulations and Compliance; Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Digital Marketing and E-Commerce for Global Markets; and Market Access and Business Development.
