Africa-Press – Mauritius. A new Design and Technology Block, along with a revamped and modernised Audio-Visual Room, were inaugurated this morning by the Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritius, Dr (Mrs) Huang Shifang, at the Gaetan Raynal State College in Belle Rose.
In his keynote address, the Minister underlined that the new Specialist Rooms will significantly expand learning opportunities for the students of the state college. He emphasised that through such collaborations to upgrade school infrastructure, the Government is committed to providing quality education.
Dr Mahend Gungapersad also commended the students for their strong academic performance, enthusiasm, and commitment to discipline. He encouraged them to broaden their knowledge and interests across a wide range of subjects, while fully embracing extracurricular activities. The Minister further stressed the importance of acquiring strong human values.
Addressing the issue of bullying in schools, the Minister underscored the need for students to serve as ambassadors of their school’s values by acting responsibly and with humanity. He further noted that students exhibiting inappropriate behaviour should be guided through opportunities for reflection and rehabilitation.
As for Ambassador Huang Shifang, she recalled that education has always been a shared priority for both the People’s Republic of China and Mauritius. She indicated that over the years, the Chinese Embassy has worked closely with the Government to support schools through a range of initiatives, including the provision of equipment and learning materials, as well as the improvement of infrastructure and facilities.
On his part, the Rector of Gaetan Raynal State College, Mr Vikash Ramdonee, qualified the setting up of the Specialist Rooms as two important milestones in the school’s journey and its contribution to the national education landscape. He underpinned the Government’s strong commitment to strengthening education through innovation, infrastructure and inclusivity, as well as its continued support in empowering young people and shaping future-ready generations.
Expressing gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its partial funding of the revamped Audio-Visual Room, Mr Ramdonee pointed out that this collaboration stands as a meaningful symbol of friendship, cooperation and shared values between Mauritius and the People’s Republic of China. He emphasised that such partnerships are poised to generate lasting positive impacts at the local level.
