Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador-Designate of the Swiss Confederation to Mauritius, Mr Stefano Toscano, presented his Letters of Credence today to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharambeer Gokhool. The official ceremony was held at the State House, Réduit, marking the formal commencement of Mr Toscano’s diplomatic mission in Mauritius.
The Ambassador was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Dija Toscano; the First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Urs Fluckiger; and the Officer in charge of Political, Economic, Social and Environmental Analysis, Mrs Haniella Razafindrabe.
The ceremony underscored the longstanding and cordial diplomatic relations between the Republic of Mauritius and the Swiss Confederation, which were formally established in 1968. During the meeting, both sides reviewed existing Memoranda of Understanding and ongoing collaboration in key areas, including health, tourism promotion, foreign direct investment, and engagement with the Swiss diaspora of approximately 850 individuals residing in Mauritius.
Discussions also focused on potential academic cooperation, particularly between Swiss universities and the University of Mauritius.
Both parties explored avenues to further strengthen and consolidate bilateral ties. They examined opportunities for expanding future cooperation in the blue economy, pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, with particular emphasis on FinTech, blockchain, and cybersecurity.
Ambassador Toscano welcomed the positive momentum in relations between the two countries, highlighting the importance of communicating the outcomes of these exchanges to his capital. He expressed confidence that sustained dialogue would continue to foster stronger bilateral ties and open new avenues for mutually beneficial collaboration across sectors.
