Africa-Press – Mauritius. The National Day Care Centre for the Immunosuppressed (NDCCI) is now operating at the H Block within the premises of Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, marking a significant step in Government’s ongoing efforts in strengthening HIV prevention and treatment services.

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo, made this statement yesterday following a site visit at the new clinical setting. The relocation of the Centre, highlighted Minister Bachoo, forms part of the broader strategy to modernise healthcare infrastructure and improve the quality, accessibility and integration of services provided to HIV patients.

According to him, the objective is to further facilitate treatment and improve service delivery for approximately 3,700 patients. The Minister deplored the dilapidated state of the former premises located at Volcy Pougnet Street, underscoring that the new setting provides a more dignified and supportive environment for individuals living with HIV and other immunosuppressed conditions.

He reiterated Government’s commitment to combating stigma and discrimination faced by these patients while ensuring that they receive equitable healthcare services.

The Health Minister also paid tribute to Non-Governmental Organisations and social workers for their contribution to assisting these patients and advancing awareness initiatives.

For his part, the Chairman of the Regional Health Advisory Board, Mr Noorani Aurdally reaffirmed continued support towards safeguarding the dignity and well-being of patients.

By being located within a major regional hospital, patients will now benefit from improved access to specialised medical services and multidisciplinary support, including referrals to other hospital-based departments where necessary.
