Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful raised concerns over the sinking of an Iranian ship by the US in the Indian Ocean. Ramful was speaking to Firstpost’s Prathik S Vinod on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue 2026. “When we see incidents like what has happened in the waters of Sri Lanka, that raises concern about our security in and around the Indian Ocean. As I’ve said earlier on, the Indian Ocean region has become highly strategically important,” he said. He emphasised the ocean’s importance as a major maritime route, noting that roughly 60% of global oil shipments, 30% of cargo shipments and 50% of container shipments pass through these waters, underlining the region’s economic and strategic significance.
