International Anti-Corruption Day: Launch of First Day Cover by ICAC and Mauritius Post Ltd

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A First Day Cover was launched today at the seat of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) by the Director-General of ICAC, Dr Navin Beekarry, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Mauritius Post Ltd, Mr Giandev Moteea, to commemorate the International Anti-Corruption Day observed annually on 09 December.

Other activities on the agenda comprise a forum on Culture as a vehicle in the fight against corruption – A historical and cultural perspective and a Training Programme of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).

Speaking at the launch, Mr Beekarry indicated that Anti-Corruption Day is annually organised to mobilise countries and their agencies to fight corruption while highlighting that it is the responsibility of each and everyone to tackle this phenomenon.

The launch of the First Day Cover, he said, is significant and sends a strong signal to the world of how institutions are joining hands to addressing corruption. The First Day Cover and the stamp capture a particular point in time, he added.

For his part, Mr Moteea expressed his appreciation to be part of this initiative to come up with the First Day Cover in the context of the 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day.

He recalled that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against corruption in October 2003 to prevent and counter corruption for the promotion of resilience and integrity across all levels of society.

The 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day seeks to highlight the rights and responsibilities of everyone – including States, Government officials, civil servants, law enforcement officers, media representatives, the private sector, civil society, academia, the public and youth – in tackling corruption.
