Africa-Press – Mauritius. MAURITIUS REIMPOSES ENTRY BAN
The discovery of the Omicron variant in South Africa last month resulted in a number of countries imposing entry bans against states in Southern Africa.

Mauritius also implemented an entry ban on a number of African states including South Africa. The island state banned arrivals from Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, Eswatini, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia.

The ban was due to expire on Friday 31 December. MAURITIUS EXTENDS RESTRICTIONS
Mauritius initially imposed entry and flight bans on South Africa in March last year.

These continued for over a year and a half and were finally lifted in October this year. This paved the way for airlines to resume direct flights between South Africa and the Indian Ocean island.

The inability to visit the idyllic Indian Ocean island resulted in a surge in demand from travelers wishing to visit Mauritius during the holiday season.

Air Mauritius, British Airways, FlySafair and South African Airways had all planned to operate flights between South Africa and Mauritius over the peak December period. ALSO READ: Low-cost carrier to offer SA flights to Mauritius

LOCKED OUT AGAIN
Travel News states that Air Mauritius announced that the island state has banned travelers from several southern African nations as well flights from destinations in the affected countries for another month.

The airline advised that the travel ban has been extended to 31 January 2022. The restrictions also apply to nationals of Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, Eswatini, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia.

For holidaymakers eagerly seeking an escape to idyllic beaches and a paradise island setting, the Maldives is a perfect choice. The Maldives has now reopened to South African nationals.
