Africa-Press – Mauritius. The FIFA U-20 World Cup will feature a strong African presence as Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa have officially punched their tickets to the global tournament. The quartet booked their spots after securing places in the semi-finals of the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, currently being hosted in Egypt.
Morocco were the first to confirm their qualification, edging Sierra Leone 1-0 in a tense quarter-final clash. The North Africans showed composure and resilience, holding firm after taking the lead to secure a well-earned victory.
Nigeria followed with a dramatic triumph over defending champions Senegal. After a fiercely contested goalless encounter, the Flying Eagles held their nerve in the penalty shootout, winning 4-2 and sealing a memorable win against one of the tournament favourites.
South Africa also booked their place with a gritty performance against DR Congo. A single goal proved decisive, as the Amajita battled through intense pressure to claim a 1-0 win and progress to the semi-finals.
But the most thrilling match of the round came from hosts Egypt, who faced off against Ghana in front of a raucous home crowd. In a game full of twists and turns, the two sides ended regular time locked at 2-2. The Egyptians, however, held their nerve in the shootout, prevailing 5-4 to ignite celebrations across the country.
