Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ministry of Health and Wellness formalised, on 28 November 2025, a new collaboration with Fortis Healthcare Limited (FHL), India, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening specialised medical care services in Mauritius.
The MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration in diagnostics, treatment and patient care. It also provides for joint initiatives including medical consultation camps and continuous medical education programmes for Mauritian healthcare personnel.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo, and the Junior Minister, Mrs Anishta Babooram. The Fortis delegation present comprised the Chief Growth & Innovation Officer, Dr Ritu Garg; the Head, International Division, Ms Renu Vij; and the Territory Lead, International Relations (South & West Africa Region), Dr Nutan Kaushik. The signatories were the Acting Senior Chief Executive of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Mr Navindsing Jugmohunsing, and Ms Vij.
By virtue of the agreement, FHL will be responsible for providing treatment recommendations based on medical reports shared by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, reviewing treatment and cost estimates following patient evaluations at Fortis hospitals. It will also offer additional medical opinions, and cover travel expenses for its medical experts participating in workshops and surgical camps organised by the Ministry.
In a statement, Minister Bachoo recalled that FHL is a leading well-equipped medical institution with 28 branches across India and the world. He noted that FHL offers several multidisciplinary healthcare services, ranging from oncology, bone marrow transplants, neurosciences, reconstructive and plastic surgery, vascular surgery, to cardiac care. Hundreds of Mauritian patients travel to India for treatment each year, and with this new MoU, they will now also have access to Fortis Hospitals, he said.
For her part, Dr Garg expressed her pleasure in formalising the partnership with the Ministry, stating that FHL looks forward to supporting Mauritius in building capacity, developing world-class healthcare services locally, and assisting patients seeking treatment abroad. She pointed out that FHL is equipped with globally renowned clinicians and advanced technology, and is committed to a long-term collaboration.
