Africa-Press – Mauritius. The introduction of a maximum price mechanism for six essential products in Rodrigues is aimed at ensuring affordability while aligning profit margins with those practiced in Mauritius.
This measure, provided under the Rodrigues Consumer Protection Regulations 1998, targets medications, basmati rice, pasta, feminine hygiene products, soaps and detergents, and toilet paper.
It adds to the existing list of 36 products already price-controlled on the island, including pharmaceuticals governed by a regressive margin system. A maximum price will now be set for each batch of goods based on margins applied to wholesalers and retailers to prevent excessive price hikes.
