Partial reopening of borders appears to be a boon for drug traffickers. In a single day, yesterday, Monday July 26, two drug packages sent by plane were intercepted by customs and the anti-drug brigade.

After the discovery of Rs 5.6 million of hashish in the double bottom of a suitcase transported by an Air Mauritius flight from Paris, elements of the airport’s ADSU also got their hands on another packet of drugs yesterday.

A routine check carried out in the early evening of Monday, July 25 after the landing of the MK852 cargo plane from Johannesburg revealed a package of approximately 1.3 kilograms of heroin from a market value of Rs 19,500,000.

It was around 6:20 p.m. that this cargo plane landed at Plaisance Airport. During a search of the device, the men of the anti-drug squad found this package hidden inside a “baby bassinet”.

The parcel wrapped in duct tape was in a piece of black cloth. After its seizure, the package was sent to RĂ©duit’s Forensic Science Laboratory for fingerprinting and DNA testing. ADSU began questioning eight crew members who were working on the flight
