Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics bear witness to the fact that the world has placed its trust in the People\u2019s Republic of China and has demonstrated the unifying power of sport.<\/p>\n

Through the Games, people have come together as one Olympic family, regardless of their nationalities, ethnic backgrounds and cultural backgrounds. Their understanding has deepened and their friendship has been renewed.<\/p>\n

This was the essence of the message of the Vice President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Marie Cyril Eddy Boissezon, at a closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics organized by the New China Foundation, in Port Louis.<\/p>\n

His message was delivered by the president of the New China Foundation, Mr. Jean Paul Lam. Parliamentary Private Secretaries (PPS), Mr. Isma\u00ebl Rawo and Mr.<\/p>\n

Rajanah Dhaliah; Members of Parliament (MPs), Ms. Sandra Mayotte and Mr. Fabrice David; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People\u2019s Republic of China in the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Liying Zhu; and other personalities were present on the occasion. Mr.<\/p>\n

Lam indicated that the Vice President congratulated the Chinese authorities for the good development of the Games despite the COVID-19 pandemic that continued to loom over the athletes, consigning them to closed doors, wearing masks and untimely PCR tests.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last 16 days have seen excellent sporting performances and sportsmanship with athletes from as many as 90 countries participating in the Games in the Olympic spirit,\u201d he noted. For her part, Ms.<\/p>\n

Mayotte praised the commitment and efforts of the Chinese Government for the quality of the organization of the Games and the various competitions, as well as for the spirit of fair play and brotherhood that prevailed.<\/p>\n

The athletes, she underlined, have shown great perseverance and have given their best in an environment of fair play, thus achieving incredible results. As for Mr.<\/p>\n

David, he recalled that the People\u2019s Republic of China and Africa organized a China-Africa Young Leaders Forum in November 2021 with the aim of strengthening ties between African countries and China, where several parliamentarians from Mauritius participated, including the same.<\/p>\n

This international summit is part of the excellent political cooperation relations between China and the African continent and allowed both Mauritius and China to advance cooperation, particularly regarding youth in politics, he said.<\/p>\n

For their part, Rawo and Dhaliah said that China and Mauritius have a long history of friendship, noting that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, bilateral relations have always advanced steadily, approaching 50 years of relationship.<\/p>\n

Mr. Rawo thanked China for its long-term help and support for the development of Mauritius, and more recently for helping the country procure COVID-19 vaccines. As for Mr.<\/p>\n

Zhu, he stressed that even if Mauritius has not been able to participate in the Beijing 2022 Games, China attaches great importance to China-Mauritius relations and will continue to support Mauritius\u2019 sports culture.<\/p>\n

Speaking about water sports in Mauritius, he stressed that Mauritian sportsmen and women are welcome to come to China to gain more experience in these disciplines.<\/p>\n

\u201cTraditionally, China and Mauritius have had excellent cooperation in this field and the C\u00f4te d\u2019Or National Sports Complex is a testament to that,\u201d she added. As for bilateral relations, Ambassador Zhu stressed that preparations are being made for the post-COVID era.<\/p>\n

Ambitious programs should be prepared aimed at reviving sports exchanges between Mauritius and China along with green development and environmental protection, which are also part of our cooperation, he concluded.<\/p>\n
