Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A symbolic ceremony for the handing over of automatic sanitiser dispensers was held, today, at the Reunion Road Government School, in Vacoas. The automatic sanitiser dispensers have been acquired under a donation of USD 500,000 of the United States of America, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to Mauritius.<\/p>\n

The Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires a. i of the Embassy of the United States (U. S. ) in Mauritius, Ms Judes E. DeBaere, the Acting Chief Technical officer of the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mr Ricaud G.<\/p>\n

Danyel Auckbur, the President of the Mauritius Red Cross Society, Mr Samoorgum, and other personalities were present at the ceremony. In a statement, Ms DeBaere commended the Mauritius Red Cross Society for its partnership with the USAID and for assisting the latter with the donation of USD 500,000 to the Mauritian society.<\/p>\n

She recalled that an ambulance as well as a utility vehicle were donated to the Mauritius Red Cross Society a few months ago and, now, with the Mauritius Red Cross Society\u2019s support, automatic sanitiser dispensers were installed in some 273 school.<\/p>\n

Ms DeBaere further indicated that the grant from the U. S. Government aims at helping Mauritius to strengthen its public health capacity and is part of the U.<\/p>\n

S. commitment to lead the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She further recalled that the U. S. has donated over 387,000 Pfizer vaccines to the Mauritian Government.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s event, she added, recognises the shared commitment of Mauritius and the U. S. to creating a safe learning environment. She also seized this opportunity to thank the Red Cross volunteers in Mauritius for their dedication and hard work.<\/p>\n

As for Mr Auckbur, he underscored that this handing over initiative is most timely and of high relevance in ensuring that schools are places where students can feel safe.<\/p>\n

He observed that the Ministry also came up with a series of measures to ensure that safe sanitary conditions prevail in schools at all time. He also commended the support from the U.<\/p>\n

S. Embassy and the Mauritius Red Cross Society for contributing to render schools a safe place of continued learning. For his part, Mr Samoorgum stressed that several projects of the Mauritius Red Cross Society are ongoing and indicated that funds received from the U.<\/p>\n

S. Embassy must be used wisely for the benefit of the population. He underlined that the automatic sanitiser dispensers have also been installed in schools in Rodrigues.<\/p>\n
