Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Steven Obeegadoo, and the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, effected a site visit, today, at the Mus\u00e9e de la Photographie, Port-Louis, to present their condolences to the bereaved family of late Tristan Br\u00e9ville, founder and director of the Museum of Photography, as well as to take stock of the current condition of the museum and seek solutions for its preservation and restoration.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Prime Minister commended the work of late Tristan Br\u00e9ville for his contribution to the Mauritian history while stressing on the importance of preserving this rich cultural heritage of the country.<\/p>\n

He underlined that Government will come up with adequate measures to support the Br\u00e9ville family to continue to operate the museum and preserve the huge legacy that he has left for the future generations.<\/p>\n

For his part, Minister Teeluck recalled that Budget 2021-2022 made provision of Rs 1 million under the \u201cGrant to Classified Museums\u201d to ensure the survival of classified museums.<\/p>\n

He indicated that cheques were remitted last year to four classified museums which are still in operation with the aim is to give support the museums to cover their operational costs, restore artefacts, and to upgrade display of exhibits.<\/p>\n

In that context, the Photography Museum received a sum of Rs 300 000. Minister Teeluck reiterated Government\u2019s intention to support the family in safeguarding the rich cultural legacy of Tristan Br\u00e9ville, which according to him is a treasure that should be cherished by everyone. The Lord Mayor of the Municipal City Council of Port-Louis, Mr Mahfooz Cader Saib, was also present for the visit.<\/p>\n
