Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A pre-budget consultative meeting with stakeholders of the Mauritius Export Association (MEXA) was held, this afternoon, at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, in Port Louis.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, chaired the meeting. Two representatives from the export sector, namely, the Chairperson of MEXA, Mr Arif Currimjee; and the Director, Mrs Lilowtee Rajmun-Joosery, participated in the consultations.<\/p>\n

In a statement after the meeting, Mr Currimjee indicated that several issues and propositions were made to the Finance Minister. An overview of the sector was also presented, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

He expressed satisfaction that, due to measures taken, the sector has rebounded post COVID-19 and expressed confidence that the sector will present numerous opportunities for export.<\/p>\n

Mr Currimjee further said that in a bid to enhance the manufacturing sector, it is imperative to work in collaboration with Government. He also underlined that enterprises are keen to become carbon neutral since as responsible businesses and organisations, they need to measure, reduce and offset their emissions.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the increasing freight prices, the Director of MEXA underlined that these increases are beyond the control of the Government. She however added that the subsidies on air freight services need to be renewed.<\/p>\n
