Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The e-Vidya Bharti Arogya Bharti (e-VBAB) Learning Centre was inaugurated, today, by the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, in R\u00e9duit, during a ceremony jointly organised by the Open University of Mauritius and the High Commission of India.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, certificates were awarded to Mauritian graduates under the e-VBAB project. The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs K.<\/p>\n

Nandini Singla, the Director-General of the Open University of Mauritius, Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, and other personalities were present at the inauguration ceremony.<\/p>\n

In her address, VPM Dookun-Luchoomun highlighted that the Learning Centre is called upon to build the capacity of Mauritians who will be following online courses dispensed by some top-notch Indian Universities.<\/p>\n

She observed that the nexus between education and economic development of a country cannot be denied, and that many of the courses under the e-VBAB project are relevant to the development of Mauritius. She underscored that this Learning Centre will be a pillar in Government\u2019s commitment to normalise the use of technology in education.<\/p>\n

As we have to stay prepared for the future, this initiative of the Indian Government is most welcomed as it bears testimony of the latter\u2019s continued support to empower and develop both the human capital and institutions so as to ensure national growth, she stated.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Vice-Prime Minister commended India for walking side by side with Mauritius in the domain of education and human resource development.<\/p>\n

The number of scholarships offered by India to Mauritian students, she observed, today stands at 70, including five for Rodrigues. She further dwelt on the various forms of support extended by the Indian Government to Mauritius in the field of education.<\/p>\n

For his part, Minister Balgobin commended the Indian Government for including Mauritius in the e-VBAB project and the Open University of Mauritius\u2019 staff for successfully implementing the project.<\/p>\n

This project, he remarked, is in line with Government\u2019s endeavours so as to ensure that opportunities remain open regardless of one\u2019s starting point in life.<\/p>\n

He also stressed that the wide range of courses offered under the e-VBAB project will enable learners to acquire new skills so as to have unique value propositions that meet the dynamic market demands.<\/p>\n

He seized this opportunity to provide an insight on other projects, such as the e-Health project, which are currently being implemented by his Ministry.<\/p>\n

As for High Commissioner Singla, she underlined that the e-VBAB project is a testimony of India\u2019s support to Mauritius for the latter\u2019s continued prosperity.<\/p>\n

According to her, a spectrum of courses is offered online under the e-VBAB project adding that all facilities will be provided to students at the Learning Centre in R\u00e9duit.<\/p>\n

She thus encouraged Mauritian students to make the most of the facilities available so as to succeed in their chosen field of study. Dr Sukon, for his part, pointed out that the aim of the e-VBAB project is to take education at the doorstep of every Mauritian citizen. He also reminded that online learning requires a lot of resources and efforts from both teachers and students.<\/p>\n

It is recalled that the Open University of Mauritius is hosting the Learning Centre for the e-VBAB project in Mauritius and as such, acts as a link between the Indian institutions and the Mauritian students who have been awarded scholarships from the Government of India.<\/p>\n

Works started in 2020 to set up the fully equipped state-of-the-art Learning Centre, which has been financed by a donation of the Indian Government under the Government to Government agreement signed between Mauritius and India.<\/p>\n
