Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Western Cape Commissioner for Children (WCCC), Ms Christina Marion Nomdo, and the Deputy Director, Investigations and Advice, Mr Cameron Cyster, paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, this morning, at the State House, in R\u00e9duit.<\/p>\n

Ms Nomdo and Mr Cyster were accompanied by the Ombudsperson for Children, Mrs Rita Venkatasawmy. In a statement, Ms Nomdo said that it was a wonderful privilege to meet with President Roopun and to learn from the first ever Ombudsperson for Children in Africa established in 2003.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am only the second Ombudsperson in the whole of Africa in the Western Cape of South Africa\u201d, she indicated.<\/p>\n

The meeting with President of the Republic of Mauritius was very productive and the latter encouraged us to work in partnership together, the Commissioner further emphasised.<\/p>\n

The aim of the visit, in Mauritius, of the Commissioner for Children and the Deputy Director is to exchange best practices and learnings regarding investigative work relating to the rights of children and to explore a strategic working relationship between the WCCC and the Ombudsperson for Children\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

It is recalled that the Western Cape Government, South Africa, appointed a Commissioner for Children on 1st June 2020. The mandate of the WCCC is to promote and protect the rights, needs and interests of children within the province.<\/p>\n
