Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative in Mauritius, Dr Laurent Musango, is leaving the country at the end of his tenure here for a new duty station in Madagascar.<\/p>\n

In this context, a farewell reception was organised by the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator\u2019s Office at the Suffren and Marina Hotel in Port-Louis on Friday 22 April 2022, as a sign of appreciation for his valuable contributions during the last few years.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, the Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin, the UN Resident Coordinator for Mauritius and Seychelles, Ms.<\/p>\n

C. N. Umutoni, and members of the diplomatic corps, were present. In his address, Minister Ganoo extended appreciation to Dr Musango for his unflinching dedication in reinforcing collaboration between Mauritius and the WHO in a time when the world is confronted with the challenge of limiting the spread of the COVID-19.<\/p>\n

The guidance and expertise of Dr Musango, he added, has been instrumental in the elaboration of the National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2020-2024 launched in August 2020; the strengthening of public and private partnerships; the prevention and control of communicable diseases; and the reinforcement of the national health system.<\/p>\n

As for Ms Umutoni, she underlined that Dr Musango played a critical role in the COVID-19 high-level committee and that his technical support to the Government was integral to the development and implementation of the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan. She lauded his unremitting efforts to control and manage the impact of the pandemic in Mauritius.<\/p>\n

Dr Musango, she indicated, also participated in the High-Level Drugs and HIV Council with the WHO and provided assistance on the Survey Report Among People Who Use Drugs which is a milestone in terms of the availability of evidence-based information on drug use.<\/p>\n

Dr Musango, for his part, expressed his gratitude to the Government for welcoming him in the country and supporting him in different projects during his tenure.<\/p>\n
