Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A conference on the theme \u2018Compliance, Governance & Risk Management around the Cyber Risks and Threats in our ecosystem\u2019, organised by Harel Mallac Technologies, at Hennessy Park Hotel in Eb\u00e8ne, kicked off, this morning, in the presence of the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin.<\/p>\n

In his address, Minister Balgobin lauded the initiative of Harel Mallac Technologies, which he said, was testimony of the drive by the private sector to further enhance the eco-system and to work in close collaboration with public and private stakeholders to better position Mauritius on the international cyberspace.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will contribute in the continuous effort by all parties from Mauritius and overseas to deliberate constructively on today\u2019s subject matter, which remains high on the agenda of the Government,\u201d highlighted the Minister.<\/p>\n

\u201cCybersecurity,\u201d he pointed out, \u201cis a pertinent and pressing issue confronting any Government or organisation, be it in the public or private sector.<\/p>\n

\u201d Mr Balgobin underlined that cyberspace should primarily be a peaceful domain, and assured that the Government was acting to ensure cybersecurity.<\/p>\n

The Minister observed that cyber threats were borderless, constantly changing and increasing in sophistication, and called for collaboration and the harnessing of collective ideas and wisdom of likeminded experts to enhance cybersecurity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to unite our strengths, expertise and resources to create the necessary eco-system and synergy with a view to countering threats and attacks,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

According to Minister Balgobin, cybercrime was not only a question of attacks against the confidentiality, integrity and availability of computer data and systems, but it was also an attack against the core values and the human development potential of societies which were increasingly relying on information technology.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act of 2021,\u201d he recalled, \u201cstrives to ensure that the Mauritian cyberspace remains strong and resilient to cybercrime.<\/p>\n

\u201d Mr Balgobin listed other governmental measures to continuously consolidate the country\u2019s readiness in the face of the ever changing and increasing cyberthreats.<\/p>\n

These include online training programmes under the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Centre of Excellence label, cyber drills organised by the Computer Emergency Response Team, the formulation of the National Cyber Incident Response Plan, and the setting up of the Mauritian Online Cybercrime Reporting System platform, amongst others.<\/p>\n

As for the Chairman of Harel Mallac Group, Mr Antoine L. Harel, he stated that today\u2019s event was an illustration of the efforts made to bring together representatives of key public and private organisations as well as main regulators on one platform in order to share insights and thus positively contribute on such an important topic.<\/p>\n

He expressed gratitude to all speakers and panellist members to generously share their expertise, experience and guidance on key subjects during the workshop.<\/p>\n
