Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The policy dialogue in the context of the preparation of the 2022 \u2013 2023 Budget continued, this afternoon in Port Louis, with the presentation, by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, of proposals to the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy.<\/p>\n

High on the list of the priorities of the Sports Minister for the upcoming financial year is the 12th edition of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l\u2019Oc\u00e9an Indien (CJSOI) Games, scheduled in Mauritius in December 2022.<\/p>\n

Mr Toussaint stressed that funds were required for the organisation of the Games, which he deemed of the same scale as the Indian Ocean Island Games but intended for junior athletes.<\/p>\n

The Minister also affirmed that a request for funding was made for the final preparations of athletes for the 11th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games to be held in August 2023 in Madagascar with the objective of repeating the country\u2019s brilliant performance in the 2019 Games.<\/p>\n

Mr Toussaint added that discussions focused, too, on the financial implications of entities to be set up under the forthcoming Sports and Physical Activity Bill as well as the recurrent expenditure of the various sports federations and organisations.<\/p>\n

Regarding the youth, Mr Toussaint appraised Dr Padayachy of the structures that would be put in place and the training to be run for officers and coaches of his Ministry so as to educate and empower young people.<\/p>\n

On the leisure front, with the enactment of the Mauritius Recreation Council Bill, the Minister called for funds to enable the Mauritius Recreation Council to carry out its function of promotion and organisation of recreational activities for the population.<\/p>\n
