Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A training workshop for children’s theatre and Dramatic Arts organised by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the Indian High Commission were launched, yesterday, at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture auditorium in Phoenix.<\/p>\n

The workshop also coincided with the launching of the National Sketch Competition in Creole Language. Present on the occasion, the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, underlined that the production workshop of children theatre will help to inculcate in the young generation the love of theatrical art.<\/p>\n

Through drama, the younger generation is encouraged to take pride in their cultural heritage and to develop their capacities at the fullest, he said. Minister Teeluck dwelt on the outcomes of the workshop, which are namely to inculcate holistic values in children, build confidence and inculcate team spirit in them, help them to combat fright, as well as help them develop creativity and listening and speaking skills.<\/p>\n

Besides, the project aims at empowering Arts Officers (Training of trainers) to provide training to children, he added. As for the National Sketch Competition, Minister Teeluck pointed out that its structure has been reviewed and modified to include smaller acts to increase participation.<\/p>\n

He said that some 7,500 participants are expected to enroll in the competition. Training Twenty officers of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage will benefit from the training.<\/p>\n

A total of 30 children of primary and secondary schools will also have the opportunity to participate in this training programme. After completing the workshop, the trainers will conduct classes with children and will also train other people in the Arts field.<\/p>\n

Eventually, most of the children of Mauritius will be enrolled in the training programme. The final product of the production workshop will be a children\u2019s play of 1 hour 15 mins. National Sketch Competition An allowance of Rs 1,000 will be granted to each group having been rejected at the screening sessions.<\/p>\n

Moreover, an allowance of Rs 5,000 will be granted to each group having presented a play in the preliminaries and an additional allowance of Rs 2,500 to each semi-finalist team and Rs 2,500 to each finalist team will also be provided.<\/p>\n
