Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>NASA\u2019s Curiosity rover examined a rectangular hole on the surface of Mars and the pictures it took have excited fans of alien theories. However, there is nothing supernatural about them, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics expert Jonathan McDowell told Sputnik.<\/p>\n

\u201cNatural geology: rock fractures often happen in straight lines,\u201d McDowell said on Friday.<\/b>

The image shows a rectangular recess that resembles an entrance to catacombs, which some Internet users have already dubbed an \u201calien door.<\/b><\/p>\n

Shortly afterwards, multiple colorized versions of the original black-and-white image have been created, including a panorama created by stitching together several of Curiosity\u2019s photographs, as shown on Gigapan.<\/p>\n

The interviewed researcher pointed to a boulder on the surface close to the right of the \u201cdoor,\u201d which has a smooth vertical edge \u2013 presumably because it dropped out recently and has not been exposed to the Martian winds for long.<\/p>\n
