Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Measures to improve the public health eco-system and strengthening the country\u2019s resilience to better respond to unpredictable health crisis like the COVID-19 , were announced by the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, this evening, during the presentation of the Budget 2022-23.
\nHe underlined that this objective entails the sustained investments in infrastructure, technology and skills. To this end, the Budget is catering for an increased healthcare budget of some Rs 14.7 billion . This includes some Rs 2.5 billion for modernising the health infrastructure of which:
\nFurthermore , the Finance Minister pointed out that a sum of Rs 325 million is earmarked for the acquisition of high-tech medical equipment including digital X-ray machines for the Souillac Hospital and a CT Scan equipment for the Flacq Hospital.
\nThe second phase of the New Flacq Teaching Hospital project will be implemented under the public-private partnership framework, he added. Other key projects include:<\/p>\n

Dr Renganaden Padayachy also announced the recruitment of 1,354 staff this year to strengthen the capacity of the public health sector to deliver high quality services.<\/p>\n

He underlined that to ensure 24\/7 specialised services, specialists in the fields of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Anaesthesia will be physically present in hospitals at all times and that Primary PCI Angiography services will be offered at the Victoria Hospital and the Trust Fund for Specialised Medical Care for Cardiac Centre.
