Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>In his Budget speech 2022-2023, the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, listed a series of measures and projects to the tune of Rs 10.9 billion which aim at supporting the Police Force in upholding law and order for a safer Mauritius for one and all while offering a quality and efficient service to the population.
\nThese projects comprise: the acquisition of one Advanced Light Helicopter to enable prompt intervention in anti-drug missions, search and rescue operations and other support to the inner islands;
\nthe construction of the Mauritius Disciplined Forces Academy at C\u00f4te D\u2019Or, including a new Police Headquarter, to provide a common training platform for the Police, Prison and Fire and Rescue Services.
\nthe installation of a New Coastal Surveillance Radar System to ensure effective coastal surveillance and monitoring of movement of vessels; the renewal of the fleet of vehicles to increase the operational capabilities of the Police Force;
\nthe implementation of a new Automated Finger Print Identification System; the procurement of Light Armoured Personnel Carriers to better handle disaster situations; and the construction of a new building at La Vigie to house the Forensic Science Laboratory. In addition, Rs 15 million will be allocated for the implementation of e-passports and e-gates to enhance border security.
\nPursuing the relentless battle against drug trafficking The Finance Minister also underlined that Government would further intensify the fight against drug trafficking.<\/p>\n

To this endeavour, Rs 18 million is being provided for the acquisition of vehicles and special equipment for the ADSU while High Patrol Vessels will be procured for the National Coast Guard to track illicit activities on the high seas.<\/p>\n

Moreover, this Budget provides Rs 18 million for the installation of two body scanners in the Eastern High Security and the Grande Rivi\u00e8re Northwest Prisons for the control of entry of unlawful objects into prisons.<\/p>\n
